TIPS ON HANGING WALL ART

If you have a vast wall space and can't afford a large piece of work but still want impact, feature gallery walls are fantastic - make it a community effort!

These suggestions can help you make an impression whether you want to design a wall of art galleries or a stand-alone item that makes a statement.

SELF-CONTAINED ART
Large individual works of art should be hung such that the focal point is at eye level. This point is typically 1.5 metres above the ground.

WALL GALLERY
Start with a hero piece to anchor the arrangement while building a wall gallery.  The centre point should be at eye level when hanging this item, and you should work outwards from there. A suitable distance between pieces of art is five to 10 centimetres.

PAIRIING
Match the orientation of the artworks to the wall you're hanging them on if you're hanging a pair of pieces. For instance, two stacked portrait paintings will look great on a tall, vertical wall, whereas two side-by-side landscape paintings will look great on a longer wall. Space them apart by about 10 cm.

VARIOUS SIZES
Align the pieces of art at their horizontal centres when hanging them in a row of varying sizes. Never arrange components in a row by their tops or bottoms.

GRAND ARTWORKS
Hang large artwork so that the bottom is 10 cm above a console or bureau to get the best effect. Large artworks can look fantastic when leant against a wall, as an alternative.
